You wouldn’t allow an unregistered builder to build your home, or employ an uncertified mechanic to fix your car. You wouldn’t want an unqualified dentist to work on your teeth. But would you allow an uncertified person to work on your business applications?

Certification provides an industry standard, a commitment to a level of knowledge and learning that can be relied upon. Like a professional license, certification offers structured, reliable evidence of skills. Certification exams are built on rigorous and standardised criteria, and are often recognised internationally.

In my view 3 worldwide Certifications are necessary in the information technology/business world for us applications consultants and clients:

1) In the United States the Institute of Certification of Computing Professionals was founded in 1973 and its recognized worldwide here is their link http://iccp.org/iccpnew/about.html

 2) In Canada, CIPS is the only professional organization in Canada that offers an Information Technology (IT) designation that is recognized by law in all the provinces. The designation is the Information Systems Professional (I.S.P.)is also recognized in the United Kingdom (by the British Computer Society), Australia (by the Australian Computer Society) and in New Zealand (by the New Zealand Computer Society)

3) New Oracle Application Certification

Based on version 11i of Oracle's applications and Oracle University E-Business Suite curriculum, application certification requires the successful completion of a series of rigorous online and proctored exams that include real world scenario based questions. The program enables Applications professionals to pursue three certification paths: Oracle 11i Financials Certified Professional Consultant, Oracle 11i Supply Chain Certified Professional Consultant, and Oracle 11i Applications Technology Certified Professional Administrator.

Each path validates and recognizes specific areas of competency within Oracle E-Business Suite 11i applications, usage, and concepts. Application Professionals who earn an E-Business certification credential have the proven skills and training that helps keep projects on time and on budget and leads to a quicker return on investment for customers ultimately improving likelihood of successful product implementations.
